How Can I Become a Mason?

Thank you for your interest in learning more about our ancient and honorable Fraternity. Contrary to popular belief, Freemasons do not typically invite others to become a Mason. Rather, you must submit a petition to express your individual desire to learn more about and join the Craft. This represents your own personal journey to become a better man and Mason.

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

Requirements

There are only three requirements to become a Mason in Utah:

  • Be a man of good moral character.
  • Be at least eighteen (18) years old.
  • Express a belief in a Supreme Being.

The goal of Freemasonry is to make good men better. Freemasonry unites good men of every country, sect, and opinion, and conciliates true friendship among those who might otherwise have remained at a perpetual distance.

Process

After you research, ponder, and decide to join the Fraternity, you may submit a petition to the Lodge indicating your request to receive the degrees of Freemasonry. As part of the petition, you will need to submit two character references as well as two Masons who can recommend you. One of your Masonic references needs to have known you for at least six (6) months. If you do not know another Mason, please contact us. We would love to meet you and get to know you more. As you come to the activities and get to know us better, one of the brothers would be happy to sign your petition.

After submitting your petition, it will be read during the next Lodge business meeting. The Lodge will then assign a committee to contact you, your character references, and your Masonic references to investigate your reasons for joining. The investigation committee will give their report during the next Lodge meeting, at which time the Lodge will vote on whether to accept you for the degrees. If all goes well, the Lodge will be in contact to set up a date for you to be initiated into the first degree of Freemasonry.

If you are interested in joining, please contact us first. We would love to meet you in person.
